Economies of scale

Former Passaic Mayor Sammy Rivera was sentenced to 21 months in a federal prison for taking a $5,000 bribe to steer public contracts. That’s the identical sentence given to former Marlboro Mayor Matthew Scannapieco, who took $245,000 in exchange for delivering contracts.

Rivera was sentenced by

U.S. District Judge Freda Wolfson, while Jerome Simandle sentenced Scannapieco.

Easy.

Hispanic defendant vs. a Caucasian defendant.

Look at all the calls for Sharpe's head... 15 to 20 years, when white defendants were getting 15 to 20 months for more serious crimes.

And you'll see the same thing for Wayne Bryant.

Either we lock 'em all up, or we don't.

50k requested

Rivera who was already skating on thin ice for other things took 5k and he was trying to shake down for the additonal $50k when nabbed. From his tone that he runs the show given the opportunity he may have been able to get te 250k mark. I think its the act/abuse of office there getting the time for not the dollar amount.

Tickets anyone?

Well at least Sammy never asked for those "special order" tickets from the Meadowlands or PNC Art Center.
