Torricelli on how he's voting tomorrow
By Robert TorricelliThe State has a debt of over $30 billion. The annual deficit could reach another $3 billion and the unfunded liability of the State Pension is in excess of $27 Billion. Those aren't numbers that argue for approving new bond issues.
There's just one exception. State voters are being asked to approve a $200 million bond issue to continue buying open space. It's part of the most successful state program, Green Acres, in the State's history.
I'm voting for it because the logic is overwhelming. There's a deep recession in the housing market. Developers are selling land that would otherwise be destroyed. The State is never going to have this opportunity again. Preserving open space is critical for our quality of life. If we buy it now, there are willing sellers at a discount. If we wait a few years for the housing recession to end, we'll be buying the same land at inflated values.
It's that simple. I'm against more borrowing unless there's a compelling case. The case for Question #3 is both compelling and financially logical.

...even if his only motivation is for the state to preserve land out where he and his fellow crooks took their campaign cash to buy big estates. Way to go, man-of-the-people.

Wow, Torricelli actually says something I agree with. Doesn't matter, the voters will approve all of the questions because they do whatever the government tells them. Hey NJ: its supposed to be the other way around.

Just a waste
Hey Bobby: How about question 4? I do believe that this question directly addresses you. Can felons vote in this state? Oh, that's right, they never did bring you up on corruption or treason charges. Vote no on everything, the last thing this state needs is any more debt.
Just wondering
Does anyone else have a suspicion that there's something (maybe a kickback) just waiting in the wings for some NJ demolibs? Not trying to be cynical, but . . In reality, there is no need for any more "open space", as there's going to be plenty when all the smart one's among us leave for lower tax pastures.
Torricelli thinks we care
I like how the not so honorable senator from NJ starts off with the outstanding debt, and then concludes by saying its ok to go another 200 million in the hole for open space. Gov. Corzine and the democrats in trenton, despite the debt, are little orphan Oliver asking "please sir can i have some more?" The democrats think we are stupid. Anyone with logic will vote NO on the first three questions.
