Marlboro Township Mayor Robert Kleinberg this week denied that he used bad language in dressing down a minor at a Bar Mitzvah in Old Bridge.
Marlene Alterman filed a July 27th harassment complaint against Kleinberg with the Old Bridge Township Police Department, alleging that at a June 16th party at a catering place on Route 9 the mayor called her 12-year old son an obscenity, then followed him outside and again addressed the child using foul language.
"I didn’t use profanity," Kleinberg said. "I yelled at a kid who had pushed my daughter and stuck his (middle) finger in her face."
Embroiled in a contentious first year re-election campaign against attorney Jonathan Hornik, a Democrat, Kleinberg said he told Alterman’s child, "Don’t do that to my daughter."
According to the police report Marlene Alterman filed with Old Bridge Police Officer Michael Pizza, her son was "at the Bar Mitzvah when he was playing with a group of kids giving each other the middle finger sign. Robert Kleinberg’s daughter was at the party as well and saw these gestures."
Kleinberg’s daughter told the mayor about "the game," according to the report Alterman filed with the police, and Kleinberg responded by twice calling Alterman’s son an expletive.
"I don’t curse," said the mayor. "Ask people who know me and they’ll tell you."

(expletive deleted) hilarious!
Are you kidding me?
I thought politicians were supposed to KISS babies, not KICK them. How disgusting of a grown man.
This is news?
They filed a complaint? It used to be that grownups could settle stuff like, well, grownups. Either let it go, talk about it the next day after people calm down, complain to your spouse, hold a grudge, whatever.
Now they have to get the police involved because they think someone cursed at their kid? No wonder the police can't stop crime -- they're dealing with stupid sh_t like this.
No decency
I feel sorry for Kleinberg's wife and kid, he sounds like a pig.
I've been to a few of these
I've been to a few of these Bar Mitzvahs in my day and believe me, an obscenity or two is the least of the offenses....
This just in...
Kleinberg crashed a pajama party and cursed out a bunch of pre-teens for making phony phone calls.
Too Bad....
he didn't curse in Belmar...Mayor Pringle would have had him arrested on the spot!
Obviously one side
I do not believe Kleinberg's side of the story. There is no doubt more to this as a parent would not file a complaint for no reason. I suppose a closer look at any filing would show what the parent is actually complaining about. This article only provided Kleinberg's defense. Let the whole truth be told and then critisize.
If true..
Kleinberg should step down.
what a fool this Mayor is
The marlboro people are having a field day with this.... http://www.nj.com/forums/marlboro/
How can you expect anyone to behave at a Bar Mitzvah
when the kishka was so dry and they didn't even have a Viennese Table? Gutenyu!
Three days later...
this is still hilarious.
Buffoon
Kleinberg is a buffoon. He walks around town like Don Vito at his daughter's wedding. He treats people poorly, his own party dislikes him, and he has made a fine mess out of the town. It's time for the boot.
You don't know the whole story
I absolutely believe Kleinberg. I know all of the people involved and it is definitely a set up to make him look bad. Politics...as usual!
Dr. Kleinberg
It happened agian at Marlboro Day, Sunday, 9/9. Mitch Jacobs, Dr. Kleinberg's Campaign Manager walked over to the to the Marlboro Jewish Center booth and began to scream at and harass people wearing Hornik shirts. This tyraid was witnessed by the USY board, youth advsior, and youth director. Mitch had no problem using foul language in front of our kids. The Republican Committe has no respect for anyone who does not roll over and embrace their idiocy. Marlboro voters need to vote for Jon Hornik, or Marlboro will become a place where no one wants to live. We are the laughing stock of New Jersey politics. It is because of the bufoons that are in charge.
This is news?
I wonder what any of us (I have two daughters) would have done. Bar Mitzvahs seem to get pretty crazy these days. When I was a kid, we didn't require chaperones in the bathrooms or on buses from temple to the catering hall. So I guess we should judge someone based on how they defend their daughter. Good thing it wasn't my daughter that was being given the finger. The report would have been much different.
