National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Ensign justified his $10,000 contribution to New Jersey Republican U.S. Senate candidate Anne Evans Estabrook to a group of conservative bloggers today during a conference call.
Ensign, who represents Nevada in the Senate, said that the decision was mainly based on practicality – that Estabrook is the most likely of the three current Republican candidates to win an election. While she’s considered a social moderate, Ensign said that her presence in the Senate would support socially conservative causes.
“One thing I do know is that having Republicans in the majority helps us get judges approved and as far as the social issues are concerned the courts are the key aspect of that,” said Ensign. “I think she is the strongest candidate there. That’s the reason why we’ve gotten behind her. I think she’s the most electable and I want to pick-up and hold as many seats as I can. Sometimes you have to make tough calls like that.”
Estabrook faces a primary against state Sen. Joe Pennacchio and Ramapo College Finance Professor Murray Sabrin, a Ron Paul supporter who has run for statewide office twice: once for senate and once for governor.

Time for a change
It is time that after a string of "successful" US Senate campaign by New Jersey moderates, we finally have a candidate who stands for something. Prof. Sabrin is a fiscal conservatist. This year, the economy and finances will play critical role in the campaign for the US Senate. Prof. Sabrin is an expert on both.
It is time that moderate Republicans and so called conservative State Senators unite behind a true conservative candidate.
Country Club Republicans
NJ Republicans have a proven track record. We are losers through-and-through. Those with money and influence all rally behind RINOs. Why, why, why do we not learn from the living mistake, Doug Forrester?
Practical choice? Please, may we rally behind someone other than a pro-abortion, inarticulate, country club Republican?
